Hypocrisy in the tech industry
Google is full of bullshit. Apple is too, but no more than Google. Microsoft is too, but as the underdog here, they’ve been trying to cut back. However, Google and Apple seem to be full of it.
Google’s is all about the open source and the open web. Yet here comes Google Chrome. Now, you get web sites that only work on Chrome, Google apps that only work with Chrome, chrome specific features, etc. What is open about that? Or how about calling Android open source and then they get their very own manufacturer, Motorola Mobility.
Now onto Apple, with their Samsung battle against the Galaxy line of phones and tables, which apparently look too much like the iPhone (all generations). It seems as though they are stipulating via patents and court rulings that phones cannot have the following features and design choices:
- Black color on the back
- Centered screen
- Uncluttered front (i.e. they should have a bunch of stuff)
- Round corners
- No horizontal speaker grills
- Thinness
Basically, they are forgoing the LG Prada, Nokia Nseries, Motorola RAZR and any phone that came before it with a frakking black back. Also, they embrace “open” when it’s convenient. Safari uses WebKit and supports a llot of web standards, but their ecosystem is so closed and inconsistent, now they don’t even allow in-game purchases.
Also, Facebook. Then again, it doesn’t take much to realize they are full of lies and deceit, so I wont get into it.
Now here comes Microsoft. They get the most bullshit and backlash, and they only seem to be honest and caring and nice. They are competition friendly, embrace developers and hackers, to the point that they encourage them. They listen to consumers, they cater to their demographics. They are open where it needs to be and closed where they find it convenient, but still offer flexibility. I will always stick to them, because the legacy Bill Gates leaves in Microsoft is one you can be proud of, more so than Steve Jobs, may he rest in peace.
I do not men to be disrespectful to Steve Jobs, nor do I mean to insult any person in particular. I am ranting about the current state of the major tech companies, so if my language seems out of hand, childish, inappropriate or disrespectful, please let me know.
A learning a day: How can anyone still hate Bill Gates
“All that money you think Gates stole from you? He’s giving it back, with interest, to the world’s poorest.
All that money you think Apple has overcharged people? Apple still has it and Steve got and kept his share.”
